Making the decision to receive care for mental health concerns is an important step. At Methodist Jennie Edmundson Behavioral Health in Council Bluffs, Iowa, we recognize that taking that step can seem daunting. That’s why we do everything possible to ensure that the admissions process is easy, simple and straightforward so that you or your loved one has access to the necessary care without facing significant barriers.
Admissions Criteria
All admissions decisions at our hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, are made on a case-by-case basis.
To be considered for admission, a person must be suffering from a primary mental health concern, which may include symptoms of the following:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Bipolar disorder
- Psychosis
- Posttraumatic stress disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Suicidal ideation
- Schizoaffective disorder
Individuals who are struggling with co-occurring addictions may also be considered for admission as long as the primary concern consists of mental health disorder-related symptoms.
We offer care for most populations, including:
- Adults ages 18-64
- Senior adults age 65 and older
In the near future, we will begin providing inpatient services for children ages 5-12 and adolescents ages 13-17. These programs will address the unique needs of this younger population, offering age-appropriate care that meets them where they are developmentally. Children and adolescents will be treated on a separate unit from our adult patients.
Admissions Process
Admission to our Council Bluffs hospital starts with each person receiving a comprehensive assessment from one of our team members. This assessment includes questions about various aspects of a prospective patient’s background, such as:
- Presenting symptoms
- Medical history
- Current social functioning
- Current academic or career functioning
- Previous behavioral health treatment
- Family history of mental health concerns
Our team uses the results of this assessment to determine whether our hospital can provide the type of care the patient needs. If it is determined that the person would benefit from our care, we then use the results of that assessment to craft an individualized treatment plan.
Getting Started
Once our hospital opens and we begin accepting patients, you will be able to reach out to our admissions department at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our team will be available to answer any questions you have about our age-specific programming, the services we offer and insurance coverage.
